Make a difference: Collect Pop Tabs

Ann Forrest Watkins collecting pop tabs.

A special "Thank You" to all the schools who took part in the Pop Tabs Program during the 2006-2007 school year.

We also want to thank the many organizations who collect pop tabs on our behalf.

Thanks to you, we recycled 14.31 million tabs or 5.65 tons during the year. Let's see if we can recycle even more next year!

Collecting Pop Tabs
Schools, churches, businesses and individuals are all "pulling together" for the Ronald McDonald House by saving the pull tab rings on beverage cans. Groups of all ages can enjoy saving the tabs—to help our environment and our families.

These small, all too often overlooked gems of ingenuity, are proving to be a tremendous source of charitable revenue for Ronald McDonald Houses throughout the country. One tab on its own may not be worth much, but if we all PULL TOGETHER (pun intended) we can make a difference and provide valuable support to our local Ronald McDonald House. So start collecting those tabs at home, school and work today.

Everyone can participate with little effort. Simply pull off the tabs from aluminum cans and put the tabs in a convenient container, such as a plastic ziplock bag or cardboard box. (Please make sure not to use a glass container.) When the container is full, drop the tabs by the House or call the House at 254-3181.

Volunteer to Pick Up Tabs
Volunteers are needed to help with the Pop Tabs Program. Would you be willing to occasionally pick up Tabs from churches or schools in your area and bring them to the House? If you would like to help or have any questions about our Pop Tabs Program, please give us a call at 254-3181.

Make Your Own Collection Container
Create your own container for collecting Pop Tabs, using common items like

• Gallon plastic milk containers
• Shoe boxes
• Plastic water cooler bottles
• Ziplock bags
• Coffee cans

RMHC Collection Boxes for Individuals and Small Groups
A limited number of Pop Tabs collection boxes are available for collecting tabs in your office, school or church. If you would like one please contact the House. Reuse the Ronald McDonald Pop Tabs Collector's Box by filling it up again and again. You can easily open the bottom of the box to drop the tabs into a plastic bag or other storage container.

RMHC Plexiglass Collection Houses for Larger Groups
For organizations and schools who need a larger container to place in a central location, a small number of Plexiglass Collection Houses have been distributed. These attractive, practical, houses can be customized with a company logo, as shown in the sample photograph on the left. Plexiglass Collection Houses have already been placed in many of the schools shown in the table below.

Please contact the House if you would like information on sponsoring a Plexiglass Collection House. One of these houses is in the Ronald McDonald House of Columbia, so be sure to see it when you drop off your next bag of Pop Tabs.
